Devlog #1: Restoring the Balance in "The Eternity War"
Welcome to The Eternity War, our graduation project, a VR hyper-casual survival game that blends mythology, history, and immersive gameplay into a single, intense experience.
Unlike traditional hack-and-slash games, this project focuses on putting the player inside the world through virtual reality. The goal is simple yet powerful: survive, adapt, and restore balance in a collapsing timeline.
The Core Concept: A VR Survival Experience
At its heart, The Eternity War is built around survival-based gameplay.
Players are placed in an ancient Egyptian setting and must face relentless waves of enemies led by Anubis. Instead of a linear story fight, the game uses a wave-based system, where difficulty increases the longer you survive.
This design ensures:
- Continuous engagement
- Rising tension
- Replayability
The Hero's Journey: Kalki
You play as Kalki, a warrior destined to restore righteousness in a fractured universe.
Kalki represents:
- Balance between ancient power and modern combat
- The last hope against chaos
- A bridge between mythological timelines
As timelines collapse, Kalki must travel through corrupted worlds and defeat forces that thrive in disorder.
World Design: Levels of Legend
Level 1: The Sands of Judgment (Egypt)
Set in a distorted ancient Egypt, this level introduces players to:
- Undead enemies
- Pyramid-based environments
- Survival mechanics under pressure
The presence of Anubis creates constant tension, pushing players to stay alert and mobile.
Level 2: The Serpent's Deception (India)
The journey continues into ancient India, where players face:
- Shape-shifting Naga enemies
- Camouflaged threats
- Environmental deception
Inspired by Nagas, this level adds strategy and unpredictability to combat.

Gameplay Mechanics: Simple Yet Immersive
The game follows a hyper-casual design philosophy, meaning:
- Easy to learn
- Hard to master
- Instant engagement
Key Features:
- Real-time VR sword combat
- Physical hand movement (no button dependency)
- 360° enemy spawning system
- Fast-paced survival loop

This creates a deep sense of immersion, where every swing feels real.
Orb System & Power-Ups
To enhance gameplay without adding complexity, we introduced a loot-based system.
Orb Types:
- Vitality Orbs (Green): Restore player health
- Essence Orbs (Blue): Unlock special abilities
Power-Ups Include:
- Chakra Shields (temporary invincibility)
- Thunder Strikes (area damage attacks)
These elements add:
- Strategy
- Reward loops
- Combat variation

Environment & Immersion
The Egyptian setting plays a major role in the player experience.
We focused on:
- Atmospheric lighting
- Desert tones and shadows
- Ambient sound design
These details enhance realism and make the player feel fully present in the world.
Behind the Scenes: Development Challenges
Building a VR game comes with unique challenges. Our team worked extensively on:
- VR player movement
- Enemy AI and spawn systems
- Wave progression balancing
- Collision and hit detection
- Performance optimization
Balancing difficulty was especially critical:
- Too easy → boring
- Too hard → frustrating
We iterated multiple times to get the perfect gameplay flow.

Conclusion
The Eternity War is more than just a student project, it's an experiment in combining simple mechanics with immersive VR gameplay.
Players:
- Fight through waves of enemies
- Collect orbs for power-ups
- Experience mythological worlds firsthand
- Face the growing threat of Anubis
Even with its hyper-casual structure, the game delivers a memorable and engaging VR experience.
