As a UI/UX design student at ICAT College of Design and Media. Through the college's curriculum and guidance from expert faculty, I gained strong skills in both user interface (UI) and user experience (UX) design. For my graduation project, I wanted to create a solution that addresses real-life challenges faced by students. College life involves academics, communication, and personal management, yet most institutions still depend on scattered systems.
To solve this, I designed College Connect, a smart, all-in-one mobile application that brings everything a student needs into a single platform.
Idea Generation: Identifying the Problem
The idea came from observing daily challenges faced by students, including my own experiences. Common issues included:
- Poor communication with administration
- Difficulty finding hostels or PG accommodation
- Limited alumni interaction
- Lack of a connected student community
To address these, I introduced four key features missing in most college apps:
- Direct chat with administration
- Hostel and PG support
- Alumni networking
- Community interaction platform
Research Phase: Understanding User Needs
To ensure the app met real needs, I conducted primary and secondary research. I studied existing college apps and gathered insights through conversations with students, peers, and faculty.
UX Case Study: Structuring the Experience
Using UX principles, I created:
- User personas
- Empathy maps
- User journeys
- Information architecture
This structured approach ensured the app was intuitive, practical, and aligned with student needs.
Wireframing: Bringing Ideas to Life
As part of my UI design workflow, I started with low-fidelity wireframes to focus on layout, navigation, and usability. Multiple iterations helped refine the structure before moving to the final visual design.
UI Design: Crafting the Visual Experience
Using Figma, I developed a modern and clean interface.

Consistency in colors, spacing, and typography ensured the interface was easy to navigate and visually appealing.
Prototyping and Testing
Prototyping is a key part of UX design. I created interactive prototypes to test real user flows such as Communication with admin, accommodation browsing, community interaction. This helped identify usability issues and improve navigation.
Showcasing the Project
Working on College Connect taught me that design is not just about visuals, it's about solving real problems. It strengthened my skills as a designer and problem solver, helping me create meaningful user experiences.
I am grateful to ICAT College of Design and Media for the opportunity to present my project at the Graduation Showcase held at Mantri Square Mall. Showcasing my work to a wider audience and receiving positive feedback from faculty, professionals, and visitors was truly encouraging and motivating.
